Founded in 1857 by Giuseppe Borsalino, Borsalino is one of the oldest hat makers in Italy. The company is based in Alessandria, Piedmont, in the north of Italy. In 1900, Borsalino won the Grand Prix at the Paris Exposition Universelle, which announced the brand to the international market and led to years of continued growth and expansion.
Borsalino conquered Europe and America, and for half a century was probably the most revered and well-known fine hat maker in the world. Beginning in the 1950s, when the ubiquity of formal hats in daily use began to wane, Borsalino production has gradually declined.
Borsalino hats have been immortalized in numerous films, but one stands above the rest: Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman in the unforgettable final scene of Casablanca, both wearing Borsalinos.
