Royall was founded in Bermuda in 1957 by Anthony J. Gaade, a yachtsman and competitor in international sailing races.

Royall Lyme, the brand's first, signature fragrance, was worn by Bermuda's Governor, Sir Edwin Leather, and was presented to the British Royal Family on their last official visit to Bermuda.

When they were introduced in the US in 1960, at the Brooks Brothers flagship store in New York, Royall Lyme and Royall Bay Rhum were an instant success and on their way to becoming American classics.
